“Just In Time” is the world’s introduction to Nadeen Ivers- Edwards. Her sophomore project, “Intimate Moments of Worship,” is an opportunity to revisit the past while looking to the future.
This gracious, vivacious Jamaican-born singer migrated to America in 1981 after graduating from The Queens Girls School in Kingston. She was enrolled into New York Institute of Technology as a computer science major and later transferred to Queens College in Flushing, New York. She ably represented her college in various arenas. Nadeen successfully completed her degree in Computer Science, with a minor in Mathematics, while being actively involved in modeling, acting, songwriting and singing. She also found time to lend her heart and talents as choir director for The First Baptist Church in East Elmhurst, Queens.
Nadeen studied classical piano for twelve years and developed her unique, mesmerizing voice under the direction of Geoffrey Shields and Muriel Wheeler. In 1984 Nadeen released her first R& B single, “ Inside Track” on Pow Wow Records which made it’s debut on the CBS show “The Equalizer.” With this release she was sought after by producers and performed with artists in the pop, rock and reggae industries, but that was not her heart’s desire. Instead, Nadeen directed her considerable talents and energy to working with young people, and founded and directed the New Community Youth Choir in East Elmhurst, Queens, NY. For the past 25 years, she has trained and directed many youth choirs and received numerous community service awards. She has been recognized by the NAACP, The National Black Music Caucus, The National Council of Negro and Professional Women, received The East Stroudsburg University Presidents Award, The Crystal Award from the Colonial Alliance for Public Schools (CAPS) in Pennsylvania, and is in Who’s Who among Teachers in America.
She also received awards from the Tobyhanna Army Depot for her community involvement and had the honor of being presented with a New York State Resolution by the then State Assembly Woman Helen Marshall. Nadeen’s most memorable accomplishments include; singing for Presidents and Prime Ministers with the National Schools Choir under the direction of Geoffrey Shields in the Jamaica West Indies, singing in Albany New York for Mayor David Dinkins and Governor Mario Cuomo, Jesse Jackson’s campaign for president, performances at the land mark Apollo Theatre, and performing in gospel musicals “God’s Trombones” and “Horns of Glory”. She has also had the privilege of working with the legendary, Harry Belafonte.
In 1989 Nadeen and her husband moved to Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania where, after enrolling in graduate school at East Stroudsburg University, founded the East Stroudsburg University Gospel Choir. After graduating with a Masters Degree in Secondary Education with a concentration in Technology and a certification in Secondary Mathematics, Nadeen began teaching at Pocono Mountain School District. While at Pocono Mountain she organized several assemblies and founded the Pocono Mountain Gospel Choir. For seven years they sang for community events, nursing homes and school functions. In 2001 the choir won third place in the McDonalds Gospel Fest in New York City.
Nadeen currently resides in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, with her husband, Derek, who is her best friend and musical collaborator of over 25 years, as well as with their two daughters, Kaela and Tereya. Theirs is truly a blessed union, with God at the helm. They currently work together as musical directors and praise and worship leaders for the Pocono Community Church in the Poconos. In addition, Nadeen, works as a math teacher at Stroudsburg Junior High School.
Nadeen and Derek’s magnetism and chemistry are tangible in Nadeen’s 2006 gospel CD, “Just In Time”. Their dynamic collaboration and the blending of a variety of music genres- from soulful contemporary worship to driving spiritual calypso contributes to the bravura of “Just In Time”. In “Intimate Moments of Worship” Nadeen invites her listeners to join her in spending some time with the Holy Spirit, and whether they do so in quiet contemplation or joyous celebration, both projects provide a message-filled musical backdrop, of praise and worship for personal and family worship.
Since the release of “ Just In Time” Nadeen has had the opportunity to open for numerous artist such as The Heritage Singers, In-A-Way, Alvin Slaughter, Ruben Studdard and Take Six to name a few. She is seen regularly by over 2 million viewers world wide on 3ABN TV and heard on numerous radio stations.
